Day-to-Day
  • Contact an RN for any camper or counselor who needs an assessment/triage
  • Assume responsibility for the review of medical records, preparation and administration of daily mediations to the assigned unit
  • Ensure medications and treatments are administered safely and in compliance with agency policy and procedure and that documentation of the same is completed. In the event that a medication or prescription is missing or runs out, the unit nurse will be responsible for obtaining the replacement as soon as possible in order to ensure continuity of care.
  • Make phone calls to families and or guardians prior to each session, to perform a screening for recent health and medication changes. Seek out instructions from families for specifics about care and medication administration while at camp.
  • Follow prescriber's orders for medication and or treatments as well as individualized guidelines.
  • Track list of seizure activity for the affected campers from your assigned unit and document in nurse's notes as needed. Confer daily with counselors who are responsible for tracking this information.
  • Follow through on any issues on body check forms completed by camp counselors during the first 24 hours at camp.
  • Confer with the clinic nurse daily to determine whether any camper in the LPN's assigned unit was treated and follow up, involving the Camp RN if necessary.
  • The Camp LPN is responsible for reviewing the weekly schedule and understanding the assignment daily. In the event that the assignment is unclear, the LPN is responsible for consulting the Nurse Manager for further clarification.
  • Confer with kitchen staff regarding any supplements and or special diets for campers in your unit to ensure compliance. Ensure documentation of supplements.
  • Track list of Epipen users from assigned unit, and confer daily with counselors to ensure Epipen is readily available for emergency use;whether camper able to carry Epipen or counselor must carry for them.
  • Monitor list from CampDocs regarding camper health history information and care while at camp.
  • The Camp LPN is responsible for writing medication incident reports as/if needed and notifying parents and physicians
  • In collaboration with the Camp Nurse Manager, in the event a camper in the LPN's assigned unit is hospitalized or is treated at urgent care or a physician's office, the Camp LPN is responsible for ensuring the discharge orders are followed through completely and timely and any clarification needed is pursued and is also received and followed through timely.
  • Daily report to the Camp Nurse Manager regarding any camper that has a change in their health status, was treated in the ER, by urgent care, a physician, or was taken to the hospital or hospitalized.
  • If assigned to the overnight shift, the LPN will organize and tidy the Health Center, perform medication reconciliations, spot check for second signatures on the MARs as per policy and provide the same if necessary after review of that MAR. Spot check that medications from the previous day have been documented, if not, check for documentation as to the reason why the medication wasn't given. Prepare and administer any medications needed during shift and off time medications. Send related e-mails and leave night shift report for day nurse to follow up. Mondays the overnight Nurse will work on unit 1, Tuesdays will be unit 2 Wednesdays unit 3 etc.
  • Seek current info on campers'/staff's state of well-being by discussions with unit administrator, cabin counselors and direct observations at mealtimes and evening activities
  • Participate in daily activity of running the clinic portion of the Health Center if necessary. To follow routine first aid/triage approach to care of campers and staff
  • Participate in daily activities of running the in-patient portion of the Health Center
  • Make arrangements at local Doctor's office if condition requires an office visit
  • Make arrangements at local pharmacy to obtain prescriptions/supplies
  • Take night call and/or backup call if schedule requires
  • Respond to all emergencies/seizures/falls occurring on camp
  • Participate in orientation education activities
  • Administer Hepatitis B Vaccines
  • Obtain, review and maintain Health Records for staff
  • Collect and manage all staff medication
  • Assist staff with completion of insurance paperwork
  • Practices and promotes the agencies mission statements in every interaction

  • Adheres to all regulations, agency policy and procedures, the employee handbook, and agency and program training requirements
  • Reports to the Justice Center as a mandated reporter if there is reasonable cause to suspect abuse or neglect. Additionally, must follow all agency incident policy and procedures
  • Reports and documents any events/activities that may hinder the health, safety and well- being of the people that attend camp (ie. Allegations of abuse, injuries, broken equipment, etc.).
  • Arrives to work by the start of scheduled shift and adhere to agency policy and procedure in regard to call offs.
  • Additional related tasks as requested by your supervisor.
