Job Description


Title: American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter
Location: Charleston, SC
Pay Rate: $45–$55 per hour + benefits

As a K–12 school-based ASL Interpreter in Charleston, SC, you will provide vital support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing by facilitating communication and helping create equitable learning environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa in academic, social, and extracurricular settings

  • Support student engagement during instruction, testing, assemblies, and one-on-one interactions

  • Collaborate with teachers, service providers, and families to support IEP goals and student progress

  • Adapt interpreting strategies to meet individual student needs and language levels

  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards

  • Participate in IEP meetings and team discussions as needed

Job Details

  • Position: Contract (with option to renew) in a school setting

  • Hours: 40 hours/week, Monday–Friday

  • Caseload: K–12 students requiring interpreting services (placement based on district need)

Successful Candidates Possess

  • Valid certification or credentials in ASL interpreting (e.G., RID, EIPA score of 3.5 or higher preferred)

  • Previous school-based or pediatric interpreting experience (preferred)

  • Strong receptive and expressive ASL skills

  • Professionalism, adaptability, and commitment to student advocacy

  • Authorization to work in the U.S. Without sponsorship

Earlier in his career, he spent nearly eight years at Insight Global, most recently as Sales Manager of the Columbus, OH office.
